August 17th - National Nonprofit Day

National Nonprofit Day is observed annually on August 17. It commemorates the day in 1894 when the Tariff Act of 1894 was signed into law, which included provisions that helped exempt charitable organizations from certain federal taxes. Today, it's a day dedicated to recognizing the contributions of nonprofit organizations, their staff, volunteers, donors, and the communities they serve.

Today, we celebrate the nonprofits that work every day to make our communities stronger—and we’re incredibly grateful to be part of the amazing nonprofit community here in the Florida Keys.

At MARC, your support helps create opportunities for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities to learn new skills, build independence, find meaningful employment, connect with their community, and live their best lives.

From our programs and supported employment to the MARC Plant Store, community activities, and so much more, every donation, purchase, volunteer hour, and act of kindness makes a difference.

MARC clients are getting ready for some fun in the sun with fresh-squeezed lemonade!

As part of our Wellness Month activities, clients will be making and serving refreshing, fresh-squeezed lemonade while putting important life skills into action. This activity is about much more than making a delicious summer drink—it’s an opportunity to learn, participate, and build confidence.

Clients will have the chance to practice skills such as teamwork, communication, following directions, customer service, handling money, and entrepreneurship. Experiences like these provide meaningful, hands-on opportunities to develop skills that can be used at home, at work, and throughout the community.

Stop by, enjoy a glass of fresh-squeezed lemonade, and join in the fun! Donations are appreciated and will help MARC continue providing programs and opportunities that teach valuable life skills to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Monroe County.

September 2026

The Queen Mother Community Project will support MARC during the month of September. The Fairy GayMothers mission is that all members of our One Human Family feel loved, supported, celebrated and have the ability to get their basic needs met. The Community Project is about creating thoughtful and sustainable ways to bring local businesses, nonprofits, and our community together. This is the kind of collaboration that creates real impact!
